So my English class is a complete waste of time. The teacher -let's call her Ms. C- gives a lesson about once a month. In class she does her own homework (she's working on a masters in some non-English subject) and all of the students sit there and talk.
Ms. C is also super into acrylic painting. She hangs all her pieces in her classroom and repeats the history behind each one every other class period.
Recently she gave us an assignment to make a painting out of something that we've read this year. Our choices were pretty limited. There was Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, and Macbeth by Shakespeare. Though I know they are all great literary pieces, I only read Siddhartha and Macbeth. Half-assed reading for a half-assed class. Most students picked Siddhartha. Probably because it was the easiest read and was covered the longest. I however wanted something darker, so I chose Macbeth. I found even found a pretty good picture to imitate.
It has dark colors which is amazing for the content. The angle of King Duncan is a little too weird for my limited capabilities. I ended up making the colors brighter and making the crown "gold" aka yellow.
This isn't the final that I turned in. This is painted in a 5 1/2" x 8" drawing book. The official is actually a lot weirder and, dare I say it, more sinister. I think it's a little weird that the king wears his crown to sleep though. But hey, that thing is expensive. Might as well.
A good two weeks after the assignment finished all the paintings ended up in the library. Of course there were at least five of her own paintings (none of which had anything to do with the literary pieces we've read). I suppose my dislike of her class has branched off into "Get over yourself, woman!"
(This is the perfect time to warn you that I'm a pretty angry person.)
Well, that's my watercolor for the day...
